In the winter of 2009, a dispute between two men in Birmingham, Alabama, tragically culminated in the death of 31-year-old Geraldo Gonzalez, a Hispanic male. On the morning of Saturday, February 7, 2009, Gonzalez was discovered deceased at a residence located at 5018 18th Court North. An investigation revealed that he had been fatally shot.
Authorities quickly identified Julio Cesar Romero as the primary suspect in the shooting.
According to investigators, the two men had been involved in an ongoing disagreement. In the aftermath of the fatal encounter, Romero fled the city, making his way to Georgia.
The search for Romero proved to be short-lived. He later made the decision to surrender to law enforcement, turning himself in to the Birmingham Police Department. His arrest brought a resolution to the case, which was one of several homicides the city experienced that year.
