On December 2, 2019, at approximately 3:00 a.m., 16-year-old James Looney was fatally shot while walking with his 15-year-old girlfriend near 6th Street and St. Charles Avenue SW in Birmingham, Alabama. Officers from the West Precinct responded to reports of shots fired and found Looney unresponsive on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
