On February 26, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., 23-year-old Raul Angel Cajigas Jr. was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. South Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue Southwest, which was subsequently updated to a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found Cajigas lying unresponsive on the sidewalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
