A sense of unease settled over The Oaks apartment complex in southwest Birmingham on the evening of Monday, February 26, 2024. Residents' concerns would soon prove to be tragically founded. Inside a black Dodge Challenger, 23-year-old Raul Angel Cajigas, a Hispanic male from Hoover, was found unresponsive. He had sustained a gunshot wound, and despite the efforts of Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
