On February 21, 2020, 19-year-old Avonte Damall Washington was fatally shot at a residence in the 1200 block of Birchwood Street, an unincorporated area of Jefferson County near Birmingham, Alabama. Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 8:35 p.m. and found Washington deceased.
