On the evening of July 25, 2022, at approximately 8:55 PM, Birmingham Police Department officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts in the 700 block of 6th Avenue West. Upon arrival, they discovered an Audi SUV parked along the roadway with a door open. Inside the vehicle, 19-year-old Dwight Deangelo Thomas Jr. was found unresponsive, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
