On September 11, 2022, Nickelas Kristerpher Kelley, a 21-year-old Birmingham resident, was fatally shot in the Green Acres neighborhood near Rozelle Reynolds Park. The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. when Birmingham’s Shot Spotter system detected multiple gunshots in the 6100 block of Avenue O. Officers responding to the scene found Kelley outside his vehicle, unresponsive from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 11:57 p.m. by emergency personnel.
