On June 28, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a shooting at the Chevron gas station located at 8730 1st Avenue North. Upon arrival, they found 20-year-old Dentarius Maurice Jackson in the back seat of a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Jackson was transported to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
