On May 25, 1934, Ed Williams, a 29-year-old policeman with the Harrison Police Department in Arkansas, was fatally shot while responding to a disturbance call. He and his partner arrived at the scene to find a suspect firing shots from a window. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Officer Williams was struck and succumbed to his injuries.
