In the late summer of 1948, Arkansas State Trooper Algin Sidney Pavatt, a young man who had recently traded the life of a farmer for a career in law enforcement, was assigned to investigate a string of burglaries in Marion County. This investigation would tragically be his last. A male victim, Pavatt found himself drawn to a remote cabin in the Lee Mountain area near Summit, owned by 60-year-old Zoie E. Crook.
