In the late afternoon of Tuesday, September 29, 1908, a tragic incident cut short the life of 35-year-old Daniel Donovan, a Reserve Officer with the Springfield Police Department. The day was unfolding like any other at the police headquarters, with officers attending to their duties. Officer Donovan was awaiting his assignment when a fellow officer was handling his own service weapon nearby.
