In the summer of 2023, a violent act shattered the life of a Springfield, Massachusetts family. Felipe Alexander Dejesus, a 39-year-old Black / African American man, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, June 24th. The incident that claimed his life unfolded on Spring Street, a grim scene that would become the focus of a homicide investigation.
Dejesus was rushed to Baystate Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, on June 11, 1984, Felipe was a father and a husband. He left behind his spouse, Lisandra Lopez, and their three children: two sons, Felipe and Jason Dejesus, and a daughter, Alexandra. His sudden and violent death left his family and friends to grapple with an immeasurable loss. In the days that followed, they would gather to remember him, with funeral services held at the Puerta Del Cielo Funeral Home, followed by his burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Hampden District Attorney's office confirmed that they were investigating Dejesus's death as a homicide. As of late June 2023, law enforcement officials had not publicly identified any suspects or announced any arrests in connection with the case. The investigation into the shooting on Spring Street remains ongoing, leaving a family and a community awaiting answers and the pursuit of justice for the life that was cut short. Another man was killed in a separate shooting in Springfield on the same night, though police have stated that the two incidents are not related.
