George W. Kirkley was a police officer with the Birmingham Police Department who lost his life in the line of duty on March 28, 1900. He and his fellow officer, J. Wafe Adams, were shot and killed while attempting to stop a suspect they had just witnessed committing a robbery at the Standard Oil offices.
