Tavares Smith, a 36-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot on February 15, 2017, in what authorities later determined to be a targeted shooting. Smith was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the northern part of Birmingham, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
