In the early morning hours of a Friday in Birmingham, Alabama, a dispute escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of 26-year-old Tyrese LeRichard Morrow. Just before 2 a.m. on January 31, 2020, in the Southtown community, a physical altercation preceded a shooting in the 900 block of 24th Street South. Responding to reports of a person shot, Birmingham police officers discovered Morrow at the scene, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly after and pronounced him deceased.
The investigation into Morrow's death quickly identified two suspects, 20-year-old Juanderius Mar'Quez Woods and 23-year-old Jehudijah Davis. Both men were subsequently arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the fatal shooting. Investigators also learned that a second individual had been transported from the scene by a personal vehicle to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. In addition to the capital murder charge, Woods and Davis also faced a charge of attempted murder for the injury of the second victim. Following their arrests, both men were held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
A subsequent turn of events, however, altered the legal trajectory of the case. In an unforeseen development, the charges against Juanderius Woods were ultimately dropped. This decision came after the key witness for the state, Jehudijah Davis, was himself killed in a separate incident. The death of the sole witness against him led to the dismissal of the charges Woods was facing in relation to Morrow's death.
