In the late hours of an April night in 2016, a private party at a Birmingham, Alabama club turned into a scene of chaos and violence that ended the life of 27-year-old Antonio Cortez Joiner. The African-American man was attending a gathering at the East Birmingham Lounge on Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard when a dispute broke out inside the venue in the early morning hours of April 25th.
The altercation, which began indoors, soon spilled out into the street, escalating into a hail of
gunfire. More than three dozen shots were reportedly fired, turning the area into what police described as a 'modern-day shootout.' In the midst of the mayhem, Joiner was struck by multiple bullets.
