In the early morning hours of New Year's Eve 2021, a tragic sequence of events on a Birmingham, Alabama roadway claimed the life of 25-year-old Morgan Lightner. Just before 3 a.m. on December 31st, Lightner was involved in a multi-vehicle accident that caused her own car to overturn. A survivor of the initial crash, she managed to exit her vehicle.
In a selfless act, Lightner then began attempting to warn oncoming traffic of the danger ahead, trying to prevent further collisions.
It was during this heroic effort that she was struck by two separate vehicles. Both of the vehicles that hit her fled the scene, leaving her fatally injured on the road. The Birmingham Police Department subsequently opened an investigation into the deadly hit-and-run.
