James H. Mullin, a 45-year-old policeman from the Birmingham Police Department, was fatally shot on September 27, 1903. The incident occurred when a woman, who had been brutally beaten by a man, approached Officer Mullin and requested his assistance in arresting her attacker. Mullin followed the woman to a house where the suspect was located and placed him under arrest.
