On March 13, 2021, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Birmingham Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating a single gunshot in the 500 block of Saint Charles Avenue Southwest. Upon arrival, officers discovered 63-year-old Levert Mickens unresponsive, seated upright in a chair on the porch of his residence. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
