On May 9, 2014, 21-year-old Devante Kyshon "Red Man" Hinds was fatally shot by a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy in the parking lot of a Walmart store located off Parkway East in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred during an undercover operation targeting a suspected heroin transaction. According to reports, Hinds attempted to flee the scene by driving his vehicle toward the deputy, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon in self-defense.
