In the spring of 2014, the life of a young man, Devante Kyshon Hinds, came to an abrupt and violent end in Birmingham, Alabama. A 21-year-old Black male, Hinds was fatally shot on May 9, 2014, in the parking lot of a Walmart located off Parkway East. The incident unfolded during an undercover drug operation conducted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, which was targeting a suspected heroin deal.
