On August 28, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Birmingham police officers responded to a report of an unresponsive individual in the 2900 block of Avenue F in the Ensley neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Johnny Markie Lewis lying unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene. Subsequent examination by the coroner's office revealed that Lewis had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
