On October 9, 2021, 35-year-old Christopher James Jones from Brighton, Alabama, was fatally shot during a transaction involving the sale of a lawnmower in Midfield. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 600 block of 11th Avenue. During the exchange, a dispute over payment escalated, leading to Jones being shot while inside his vehicle. Following the shooting, his car collided with a utility pole. Jones was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:42 p.m.
