On August 25, 2022, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers on patrol near the 800 block of Finley Boulevard heard multiple gunshots. Responding to the scene, they discovered 37-year-old Dariuse Dewayne Benson lying unresponsive in an alleyway on the 1600 block of 8th Street West, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced Benson deceased at the scene.
