On January 28, 2022, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 2900 block of 16th Street North. Upon arrival, they discovered multiple spent shell casings in the roadway. Shortly thereafter, they were informed that 17-year-old Javarius Reid had been transported to UAB Hospital via private vehicle, where he was pronounced deceased.
