On a September day in 2008, the life of Andree Devore 'ATL' Frierson, a 28-year-old African-American man, was cut short in his own home. On September 12th, Frierson was discovered fatally shot inside his residence at 116 60th Street North in Birmingham, Alabama. His death was the result of a dispute that had taken place earlier in the day, an altercation reportedly over money.
The disagreement was not with his alleged killer, but with the suspect's brother.
An argument had erupted between Frierson and Tyrone Bailey. This conflict would ultimately lead to deadly consequences. Two years after the fatal shooting, a break in the case brought a sense of hope for justice to Frierson's family and community. In 2010, Birmingham police arrested 29-year-old Keith 'Slick' Cotton, the brother of Tyrone Bailey, in connection with Frierson's murder.
