In the warm evening of Memorial Day, May 29, 2017, the life of 30-year-old Jeremy Thompson was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. A Caucasian male, Jeremy was a father and a son, known by his loved ones for his good nature. He had a history of struggling with addiction, which at times led to him living on the streets. It was during one of these periods that he found himself at the intersection of I-59 and Avenue I.
An altercation erupted between Jeremy and multiple individuals
in two separate vehicles, a silver Kia and a black Nissan. According to investigators, Jeremy was attempting to walk away from the confrontation when shots were fired from the black Nissan. Emergency services arrived to find him with multiple gunshot wounds to his back. Despite their efforts, Jeremy Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the years that have followed, Jeremy's family has continued to seek answers and justice. The Birmingham Police Department has investigated the homicide, and the case was eventually turned over to their cold case unit. However, no persons of interest have ever been publicly named, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The individuals in the black Nissan who were responsible for his death remain at large, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew and loved Jeremy.
