In the early morning hours of March 17, 2024, a dispute that began in a Birmingham, Alabama nightclub spilled out into the streets, culminating in a deadly shootout. In the ensuing chaos on Boise Avenue Southwest, 24-year-old Kartece Perkins, a Black male, was killed. Another man, 25-year-old Leon Wyatt Jr., also lost his life in the exchange of gunfire.
The violence erupted around 6:14 a.m.
following what authorities described as a 'meet-up' between individuals who had been involved in an earlier altercation at a local club. The confrontation quickly escalated into a gun battle, with an estimated 75 rounds being fired from multiple firearms, turning the residential street into a scene of carnage. Both Perkins and Wyatt were pronounced dead at the location.
In the days that followed the double homicide, the Birmingham Police Department confirmed that they were actively investigating the incident. They acknowledged the link between the nightclub argument and the fatal shooting. However, despite the violent nature of the crime and the number of shots fired, which suggested multiple participants, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or announced any arrests in connection with the deaths of Kartece Perkins and Leon Wyatt Jr. The investigation into the double homicide remains ongoing.
