On October 2, 2022, at approximately 5:01 PM, Birmingham Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of 16th Street South, near Railroad Park. Upon arrival, officers discovered 26-year-old Malik Syrmone Shelton suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the prompt arrival of Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, Shelton was pronounced deceased at the scene.
