On March 7, 2018, 17-year-old Courtlin Arrington was fatally shot inside Huffman High School in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred as students were being dismissed for the day. Michael Barber, a fellow student, had brought a pistol to school and, while showing it to Arrington, the firearm discharged, striking her in the chest. Arrington was transported to UAB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
