Jessie W. Taylor, 70, a Black woman, was living at McMillon Estates in Ensley when an ordinary Monday afternoon in early June turned violent inside the senior independent-living building. On June 2, 2014, she was shot in the lobby of the complex, and the sudden burst of gunfire echoed through a place meant for quiet routines and neighborly familiarity.
