In the summer of 2021, the life of 67-year-old Eddie Lee Gandy, a male resident of Columbus, Mississippi, came to a tragic and violent end. On the morning of June 23rd, Gandy was found shot to death inside his 15th Avenue North home. Investigators arriving at the scene discovered signs of forced entry, suggesting that a robbery had been the motive for the intrusion that ultimately led to his murder.
It appeared to authorities that someone had gone through his home looking for something of value.
The Columbus Police Department's investigation into the homicide quickly pointed toward the involvement of two local teenagers. The first to be apprehended was 16-year-old Korey Harris, who was arrested and charged with capital murder. The capital charge was pursued because the evidence indicated that Gandy had been killed during the commission of another felony, specifically a robbery. Shortly after Harris's arrest, police identified another 16-year-old, Keylon Stubbs, as a person of interest in the case.
Following a public appeal for information on his whereabouts, Keylon Stubbs turned himself in to the Columbus Police Department. He, too, was charged with capital murder in connection with Eddie Lee Gandy's death. Due to the severity of the crime, both teenagers were to be charged as adults. In May of 2022, a grand jury indicted both Korey Harris and Keylon Stubbs on the charge of capital murder, moving their case forward in the judicial system.
