In the quiet early morning hours in Columbus, Mississippi, a violent encounter shattered the peace and ultimately claimed the life of 31-year-old Quinton Sinatra Hill. On Sunday, July 6, 2014, just before 2:30 a.m., Hill was at his residence at 2002 Fourth Ave. S. when he responded to a knock at his door. An assailant fired a gun through the closed door, striking Hill in the face at point-blank range.
The gunman, described only as a Black male wearing a shirt or towel over his face, then forced his way into the home. Inside, another man was asleep on the living room couch. The intruder woke him and demanded money, robbing him of his wallet before fleeing the scene with an unknown amount of cash. It remains unclear whether the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle.
Emergency services were called, and Hill was initially transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was then airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for more advanced care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Quinton Hill succumbed to his injuries and passed away on July 8, 2014.
Quinton, born on January 24, 1983, was a father and was remembered fondly by his former co-workers at The Front Door/Back Door Restaurant, where he had worked his way up to sous chef. In the wake of his death, friends and former colleagues organized a fundraiser to support his family, particularly his infant daughter. The investigation into his murder was handled by the Columbus Police Department. As of mid-July 2014, no arrests had been made in connection with this tragic home invasion and homicide. Authorities had urged anyone with information to contact them, but further updates on any arrests or the identification of a suspect have not been made publicly available.
