In the late hours of a Saturday night, a domestic disturbance call led deputies to a grim discovery in the front yard of a home on Mike Parra Road in Columbus, Mississippi. There, they found 26-year-old Joshua Kyzer suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene on February 20, 2016. Joshua, a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force stationed in Pensacola, Florida, was visiting the area at the time of his death.
The ensuing investigation quickly led to the arrest of Joshua's father, 55-year-old Randall Kyzer. He was taken into custody by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and subsequently charged with the murder of his son. The incident that led to the fatal shooting was described as a heated argument between the father and son. Both men were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the altercation.
According to court documents, Randall Kyzer admitted to retrieving a. 22-caliber revolver during the argument with the intention of making his son leave the property. He claimed that the firearm discharged accidentally when Joshua grabbed it while it was in his hand. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner of death. Randall Kyzer was held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center with his bond set at $100,000.
