In the summer of 2018, a tragic event unfolded in the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, leading to the death of Denise Fassel, age 55. On the evening of Sunday, August 12th, an assailant forced his way into Fassel's apartment located at 2012 Avenue. Once inside, the intruder shot Fassel in the torso, inflicting a fatal wound. The incident, which began around 5:45 p.m., marked the start of a brief but violent crime spree.
