On August 12, 2018, 55-year-old Denise Fassel was found deceased in her Birmingham, Alabama, home on Avenue J. The Birmingham Police Department responded to the scene and discovered her unresponsive, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The incident was not believed to be random, suggesting a possible connection between Fassel and her assailant.
