The mother of a 3-month-old East Lake child has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Mikylah Mays.
Joycelyn Smitherman, 22, was taken into custody after finding the child unresponsive Thursday morning. The child later was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital.
