The mother of a 3-month-old East Lake child has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Mikylah Mays.
Joycelyn Smitherman, 22, was taken into custody after finding the child unresponsive Thursday morning. The child later was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital.

A male, believed to be the child's father, also was taken into custody. It is not certain whether charges have been filed against the man. Smitherman is being held without bond in the ...Read More
