In the fall of 2020, a domestic dispute in Birmingham, Alabama, tragically cut short the life of 65-year-old Loretta Frazier. On the morning of November 10, gunfire erupted at a residence on 12th Street North, resulting in a quadruple shooting that left two individuals, including Frazier, dead and two others hospitalized.
The preliminary investigation by the Birmingham Police Department pointed to a grim sequence of events stemming from a domestic issue.
Authorities identified 40-year-old Derick Williams as the instigator. Williams, who had a prior romantic relationship with one of the surviving female victims, arrived at the apartment and opened fire, shooting all three people inside. Loretta Frazier was fatally wounded during this violent assault.
In a desperate act of self-defense, a wounded male victim inside the apartment managed to return fire, striking and killing Williams at the scene. The investigation later revealed that a domestic report had been filed at that same location within the 24 hours preceding the shooting, hinting at a volatile situation that ultimately escalated to a fatal conclusion.
Due to Williams' death at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the murder of Loretta Frazier. The incident was classified as a domestic-related homicide, with Frazier being a tragic victim caught in the crossfire of a conflict that did not directly involve her. Funeral services for Loretta Frazier were held on November 19, 2020, with her burial taking place at Oakland Memorial Gardens.
