A woman's body is found behind a dumpster In the fall of 2017, Ieasha Abrams, a 34-year-old African-American woman, was turning her life around. After a history of personal struggles, she had secured a steady job at a restaurant and recently leased her own apartment on Beacon Parkway East in Birmingham, Alabama. Those close to her said she was happier than she had been in a long time. She was a mother to three children who were being cared for by relatives, but she maintained a presence in their lives.
The last time her loved ones saw her was on September 25, 2017.
Days turned into a week with no word from Ieasha. On October 4, 2017, a tip to Crime Stoppers led Birmingham police to a wooded area behind her apartment building. An initial search came up empty. However, after property managers reported a foul odor, a K-9 unit was brought in and discovered a decomposing body behind a dumpster. The remains were soon identified as those of Ieasha Abrams.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office initially could not determine the cause of death. After more than a month, her death was officially classified as a homicide. The coroner determined that she had been assaulted in a manner that would not have resulted in a natural death, though the specific cause of death has not been publicly released.
Despite the initial investigation and reports in February 2018 that detectives were close to solving the case, years have passed without an arrest. The murder of Ieasha Abrams remains unsolved, leaving her family still waiting for justice.
