On January 4, 2022, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2000 block of Treadwell Road in east Birmingham. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle stalled in the roadway, riddled with bullets. Inside, 40-year-old Birmingham resident Michelle Kemp Gilder was found unresponsive in the driver's seat. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced her deceased at the scene.
