On January 10, 2024, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot at a residence in the 800 block of Green Crest Turn. Upon arrival, they found 21-year-old Mia Nickson lying unresponsive in the driveway, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
