On a cold February evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of Yalunda Watts Young, a 43-year-old Black woman, was tragically cut short. On February 20, 2022, as she was leaving a business located in the 600 block of 9th Street North, an unknown assailant or assailants opened fire. Yalunda was fatally wounded in the attack. A man who was with her at the time was also struck by the gunfire but ultimately survived his injuries.
