On August 7, 2022, at approximately 3:00 AM, Birmingham Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 800 Block of 2nd Avenue North. Upon arrival, officers found 19-year-old Ja'Kia Shauntanese Winston unresponsive in a parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
