On a cold February afternoon in 2009, the life of 34-year-old Demarshell Nicol Taper, a female resident of Birmingham, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Originally from Mississippi, she had made Birmingham her home for about two years before her untimely death. On February 13th, her body was discovered in Arthur Shores Park, located in the city's Druid Hills neighborhood. She had been shot in the head, and witnesses reported hearing as many as four gunshots in the area.
