On August 28, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a person shot in the 7700 block of 5th Avenue South. Upon arrival, they discovered 40-year-old Diana Lajoyce McCall lying on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel transported her to UAB Hospital for treatment.
