Jasmine Lashenay Nixon, a 23-year-old female, died on April 28, 2016, in Birmingham, Alabama, from a gunshot wound. The events leading to her death began with an altercation between her teenage sister and a teenage boy earlier in the day.
Following the initial dispute, Nixon, accompanied by several other individuals, went to the boy's residence in the 500 block of 16th Terrace NW in Center Point to confront him. Upon arriving at the home, an attempt was made to force entry.
When the teenage boy's mother opened the door, Nixon allegedly pushed her way inside, causing the woman to fall. The woman's husband, who was also inside the home, responded by firing a single shot from a handgun, which struck Nixon.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Nixon was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office investigated the shooting. After reviewing the evidence presented by detectives, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office determined that the homeowner acted in self-defense. Consequently, the shooting was ruled justified, and no charges were filed against the man who shot Nixon.
