On January 8, 2022, 16-year-old Yasmine Wright was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. Wright, a student at Wenonah High School, was returning home from her job at the Birmingham Zoo when she was struck by a stray bullet during a shooting incident near 16th Way Southwest and Matt Leonard Drive.
