In the late summer of 2024, a dispute in Birmingham, Alabama, tragically cut short the life of 40-year-old Diana Lajoyce McCall. On the evening of August 28th, what began as a physical altercation involving two women and a man escalated into a violent confrontation that would ultimately prove fatal for McCall.
The incident unfolded in the 7700 block of 5th Avenue South, where Birmingham police officers responded to a report of a person shot at approximately 7:20 p.m..
Upon their arrival, they discovered McCall on the sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services promptly transported her to UAB Hospital for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, McCall succumbed to her injuries nearly two weeks later, on September 11, 2024.
Investigators believe the shooting was the culmination of an earlier dispute. During the course of the initial altercation, McCall became involved in a direct confrontation with the male individual, who then shot her before fleeing the scene.
While the Birmingham Police Department has identified all the individuals involved in the incident, no arrests have been made in connection with McCall's death as the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are preparing to present the findings of their investigation to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for review.
