On the evening of September 23, 2018, a gathering in Bessemer, Alabama, turned tragic, ending the life of 28-year-old Quinton Lamar Riddle. Riddle, a Black male, was visiting a home in the 4700 block of Little Drive when another man arrived, sparking an argument. The dispute escalated, and gunfire erupted outside the residence.
Though inside the house, Riddle was struck by the shots fired during the altercation.
He was rushed to UAB Medical West for his injuries but was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m. that same evening, a little over an hour after the shooting occurred around 7:00 p.m. The senseless act of violence cut short a young life and left a community in mourning.
In the immediate aftermath, investigators quickly identified a person of interest when an individual with a gunshot wound sought treatment at a Birmingham hospital. This lead proved fruitful, and the day after the fatal shooting, authorities arrested 28-year-old Mario Lamar Wormley. He was subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with Quinton Lamar Riddle's death and was held without bond.
