Death by Force

On January 7, 1977, in Bessemer, Alabama, 36-year-old John Tatum Jr. was fatally shot in the back of the head by Walter Hill. The incident occurred at the residence of Willie Mae Hammock, where Hill had been a frequent visitor. Hill had expressed a desire to marry Hammock's 13-year-old daughter, Toni, but Hammock refused his request. In response, Hill shot Hammock, her stepbrother John Tatum Jr., and Tatum's wife, Lois Jean Tatum, who was 34 years old.
