On August 17, 2024, 19-year-old Martez Reshard Paige Jr. of Bessemer, Alabama, was found deceased in Brighton. Authorities discovered his body lying in the roadway near a silver vehicle at the intersection of Jaybird Road and Edward Street. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
