On the evening of February 3, 2019, 18-year-old Jaterrius Dewayne Conwell was fatally shot in Bessemer, Alabama. Conwell was in a vehicle with friends when a firearm they were handling discharged, striking him. The group immediately transported him to a local hospital, where he was stabilized before being transferred to a Birmingham facility. Despite medical efforts, Conwell succumbed to his injuries approximately an hour later.
