In the quiet of a Sunday evening in Mobile, Alabama, a tragedy unfolded that would leave a community searching for answers. On January 20, 2019, police were called to a residence in the 400 block of Claude Harris Drive. Inside the home, they discovered the bodies of two men, both of whom had been shot. One of the victims was identified as Cornelius Taylor, a 41-year-old Black / African American male. The other man was identified as 37-year-old Nelson Bedgood.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, marking the beginning of a double homicide investigation.
Cornelius Taylor, who was also known by the nickname 'Bleu,' was remembered by his family and friends. A visitation was held for him on February 2, 2019, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, followed by his burial at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Theodore, Alabama. Those who knew him recalled a man who brought smiles to those around him and never met a stranger.
Despite the efforts of the Mobile Police Department, the investigation into the murders of Cornelius Taylor and Nelson Bedgood has faced significant challenges. By the end of 2019, the case remained unsolved, with no arrests made. In December of that year, law enforcement made a public appeal for assistance, offering a $5,000 reward for any information that would lead to an arrest in this and other unsolved homicide cases. However, by February 2020, the investigation had gone cold, with no significant leads to move the case forward. The search for justice for Cornelius Taylor and Nelson Bedgood continues.
